New Moon in Libra: Choose Yourself
As autumn settles around us, there is something inviting about the changing light. We begin reaching for softer places to land, quieter evenings, and a little more room to hear ourselves think.
But even when the world outside grows quieter, our lives can remain very full. Full of commitments, expectations, and the small decisions we make to keep everything moving. Before we set another intention, it helps to pause and ask: Does the life I’m tending have room for what I need?
The upcoming New Moon in Libra offers a beautiful moment to sit with that question.
The Sun and Moon meet on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at approximately 11:50 a.m. EDT, near 17°22′ Libra. In astrology, this begins a lunar cycle associated with partnership, fairness, beauty, and balance. For our practice, we can use it as a starting point for exploring how those qualities feel in everyday life.
Begin with the relationship you have with yourself
When we think about Libra, we often think about our relationships with other people. This New Moon is also an invitation to notice how we relate to ourselves within those connections.
Think about the last time someone asked what you wanted. Did you know? Did you answer honestly? Or did you first try to figure out what would be easiest for everyone else?
There is tenderness in wanting to be considerate. There is also room to practice letting your own preferences matter. You might begin with something small: choosing how you spend a free afternoon, asking for help with a task, or giving yourself time to answer an invitation.
These everyday choices can become the foundation of a more balanced life. Each one gives you an opportunity to listen to yourself and follow through.
Venus retrograde: Give your intentions room to evolve
Venus, Libra’s ruling planet, is retrograde in Scorpio during this lunation. Astrologically, I read this as an invitation to revisit questions of value, trust, intimacy, and desire.
Something you once wanted may feel different now. A familiar commitment may need a new conversation. You may discover that the way you spend your time no longer reflects what matters most to you.
Let that information help shape your intentions. You can begin with what you know today and leave room for greater understanding. An intention such as “I am learning to recognize and communicate my needs” gives you something to practice without requiring every answer in advance.
Let balance take a practical shape
The New Moon forms a sextile to Jupiter in Leo and a wide opposition to Saturn in Aries. In my reading, these connections bring together creative possibility and the work of making a commitment sustainable.
What would help you make space for more pleasure, connection, or beauty? Perhaps you need an evening without obligations. Perhaps a shared responsibility needs to be discussed. Perhaps there is a creative project you want to return to for the simple joy of doing it.
Choose one intention you can support with an action. If you want more spaciousness, leave a little breathing room in your calendar. If you want more connection, reach out to someone with whom you feel at ease. Give your intention a place to live.
A little New Moon magic
Before you begin, clear a small space and put your phone aside. Take a few slow breaths. Allow yourself to arrive without needing to feel perfectly calm or inspired.
Write down your answers to these questions:
● What does it mean to choose myself?
● What helps me feel peaceful and supported?
● Where does my time or energy need to be redistributed?
● What do I want to invite into my relationships, including my relationship with myself?
● What is one choice I can make this week to support that intention?
Then write one sentence beginning with “I am making room for…” Place it somewhere you will see it during the coming week.
Try this affirmation: “My needs belong in the life I am creating.” Repeat it when you need a moment to consider a decision, or at the end of the day as you reflect on how you cared for yourself.
