Leo Season: Becoming Brave Enough to Be Seen

There comes a point in every summer when the world seems to glow a little brighter.  The gardens are overflowing. The days stretch long into the evening. Fields begin to hint at the first harvest, and life itself seems to celebrate its own abundance.  It’s no coincidence that this is when we enter Leo season.

Ruled by the Sun, Leo reminds us that growth isn’t only about putting down roots—it’s also about allowing ourselves to bloom.  After Cancer season invited us inward to build the home within ourselves, Leo asks us to step into the light and become visible.

This isn’t a season about ego, it’s about courage.

The Story Behind Leo

Long before Leo became one of the twelve zodiac signs, it was known in Greek mythology as the Nemean Lion.  The lion’s golden hide was said to be impossible to pierce. No arrow, sword, or spear could wound it.  When Hercules faced the lion as the first of his Twelve Labors, he quickly realized that the tools he’d always relied upon wouldn’t work.

Instead, he entered the lion’s cave and wrestled it with his bare hands.  Even after defeating the beast, he couldn’t remove its magnificent hide. According to the myth, the goddess Athena revealed that only one thing could pierce the lion’s armor:  One of the lion’s own claws.

Nothing outside the lion could break through its defenses.  Only the lion itself.  It’s a remarkable metaphor.  How often do we search outside ourselves for the confidence we already possess?  Leo reminds us that the courage we’re seeking has been within us all along.

The Archetype of Leo

Every zodiac sign represents an archetype—a timeless pattern of human experience.  Leo is the Creator, the Leader, and the Radiant Heart.  Its lesson isn’t to become louder but to become more authentic.

Leo asks:

  • What gifts are uniquely yours?

  • Where have you been hiding to avoid being seen?

  • What would you create if you trusted your own voice?

The lion doesn’t ask permission to roar.  It simply expresses its nature.  That’s the invitation of Leo season.

The Astrology of Leo Season 2026

This year, Leo season carries even greater significance.  Most notably, Jupiter entered Leo nearly a month ago and will remain here for approximately one year.  Jupiter is the planet of growth, expansion, and possibility wherever it travels, it encourages us to stretch beyond our comfort zones and embrace new opportunities.

With Jupiter moving through Leo, we’re being asked to think bigger about our creative potential, our leadership, and the ways we allow ourselves to be seen.  The Sun, Leo’s ruling planet, has also returned home to the sign it governs, amplifying themes of vitality, confidence, and self-expression.

Meanwhile, the remarkable outer-planet basket formation that has been building throughout July continues to concentrate collective energy around long-term creation and transformation. Rather than scattering our attention, this configuration encourages us to channel it with purpose.

And just days into Leo season, the lunar nodes will shift into a new pair of signs, marking the beginning of an approximately 18-month chapter of collective growth. While Jupiter encourages us to expand into our authentic selves, the nodal shift will begin asking where that growth wants to take us next.

Taken together, the astrology suggests that this isn’t simply a month of confidence.  It’s the beginning of a much larger story.

Working With Leo Season

Rather than asking what you want to achieve, ask yourself:What kind of person do I want to become?

Leo teaches that confidence isn’t something we’re given. It’s something we cultivate every time we choose authenticity over fear.  This season, consider:

  • Beginning a creative project.

  • Sharing something you’ve been afraid to show.

  • Celebrating your progress instead of only focusing on what’s left to accomplish.

  • Practicing joy as intentionally as productivity.

  • Letting yourself receive recognition without diminishing your light.

Journal Prompts

  • Where am I being invited to take up more space?

  • What gifts have I been keeping hidden?

  • What would I create if fear wasn’t making the decisions?

  • How have I grown since the beginning of the year?

  • What does authentic confidence feel like to me?

Leo season arrives just as nature begins preparing for its first harvest.  It’s a reminder that confidence doesn’t appear overnight.  It grows quietly beneath the surface before it ever becomes visible.  Perhaps that’s the deeper wisdom of the lion.

The strength we admire most isn’t borrowed from the outside world.  It’s discovered when we’re willing to trust what has always lived within us.
